By 2023 the globalist agenda is to get rid of cash, leaving only digital currencies as the only option. It's an easy task, all they have to do is to push out a printer driver update and stage a theft of the special paper cash is printed on, make it appear in any store as "printer paper", suddenly any idiot who owns a printer could print their own cash and cash gets inflated. Banks and stores will then immediately stop accepting cash as there's no way to tell the difference between the real and fake bills.
After that we only have two digital currency systems to choose between. 1: Bank money, mass surveilled, censored, all funds stored in one central place, proprietary, no privacy, no anonymity and no security. Or 2: Cryptocurrency, decentralized peer-to-peer payments, thousands of nodes spread across the globe so more resistant to EMP attacks, security, privacy, anonymity, censorship resistant, open-source.
It's easy to forget that cash is also a tool of oppression from the deep state, precious metals is the only real physical currency, but it's not very easy to use on todays market which is the official excuse as to why fiat was invented in the first place.

I've long been a proponent of an asset-backed currency. That was before crypto, but the argument is only enhanced by crypto's decentralization.
It still doesn't get past the EMP risk. If you don't have a network to access, digital currency isn't very useful.
