Right now I’m sure a lot of it is optics. We’ve been painted as racists for so long we’re being a bit overly friendly to show that we’re actually decent people.

If you’ve ever seen any of Karlyn Borysenko’s stuff, when she went to her first Trump rally, as a leftist, she was really kinda scared of what we would be like, and was amazed to find out we’re actually way nicer than the left.

Being the open and welcoming side has its advantages when the other side is ejecting people like ballast in a storm.
