And just wanted to say it is becoming more of a shit hole every time I go back (have in laws that are in the area). Dirty as fuck, homelessness everywhere, businesses shut down, everyone wearing fear masks even if they were outside exercising. Just a total joke of a town. It’s obviously been on the decline for awhile now but it just a complete embarrassment at this point. I live in a north Houston suburb that was literally just voted the number 1 town to live in the U.S. and it is night and day (and that’s saying something because Houston has its problems too but Austin is just a complete embarrassment nothing else in Texas is on that level lol). The peak of the visit was getting our windshield washed at a stoplight. That is some straight 3rd world country type shit and I have never seen that in Texas and I have lived my entire life in this state and been all over it. Anyway just thought I would share because despite all this, there are still so many people acting like Austin is still the coolest place ever. So I had to share it with people that live in the same reality as me. Which is getting harder to find every day.

I accepted an offer in Austin to get away from California. It turned out not being much of an upgrade. The more I hear about it, the more I find myself wishing I was in Florida.

We're in California too! We decided to wait it out. Idk what the future holds. Good luck friend.

Oh, nice! Good luck too you, too.

As a State Texas is far less authoritarian than CA, and a lot less expensive, too. But I think the government here is way more RINO than MAGA. Abbott's already proven to be an authoritarian who just infringes rights on a whim. He's bringing in Big Tech companies which will give them disproportionate influence over the state, and we all see how well that went in CA. And very few in government did much of anything to fight the fraud.

Hope you can either find a pocket of sanity or find a better state altogether. The places remaining I think are shrinking by the day. :/

That was the vibe I got. I visited Dallas in Feb to check it out. TX is way overhyped on this forum. I'm in a red pocket here in CA and we don't think its worth it yet if the trade off isn't that significant. I'll have to just suck it up and homeschool my kids because I refuse to mask or vaccinate them.
