Purge with nitrogen and seal it off. A good air-tight seal is easy to achieve with PVC. Then when you need to dig it back up you can use it immediately without having to tear it down and clean out all the tranny fluid (ew).
Here's a guy who successfully buried a gun for 15 years. To summarize he oiled everything with rust preventative oil, sealed it in a mylar bag with dessicants, then put in a PVC pipe and sealed on both ends. Said it worked just fine.
