I don't understand why Texas cannot just declare it self a sanctuary state and close the border. Activate the national guard and just turn everyone away. They want to federally apply for asylum or something do it in our embassy in Mexico ..?
They should. There are lots of other states just flouting federal laws (recreational marijuana, sanctuary states), they should be able to protect their sovereignty. The problem is, the last time a state tried to enforce immigration laws because the feds weren't doing it, they were sued into submission and just gave up.
