We always use the phrase "virtue signaling" but I think the Left likes it because it has "virtue" in it. Like if someone constantly says "I'm not guilty!", people will think that person IS guilty because they focus on the key word instead of the "not" part. The Left likes "virtue signaling" like this meme shows.

It'd be nice if people started using "vanity signaling" instead. Because that's all social media is - a place for people to be vain and obnoxiously express it. Whether they're posting selfies, body pics, or spouting their political beliefs, they're just signaling their vanity.

What's more insane is that social media is progressively getting even more vain. We went from MySpace, to Facebook, to Twitter, to Vine, to Instagram, and now to TikTok. These apps are just becoming more and more vain and so are the people using them. I'm not sure how you can get more vain than TikTok, but I'm sure the next social media app will show us. It's destroying society.

End vanity signaling.

I can get behind this, it's perfect too because they act like beauty standards are terrible and vanity usually gets used in that context, I'm sure it'd make them reeee.

Keep posting this comment everywhere! I think we can change the narrative using this. No one wants to be thought of as VAIN. So keep calling it Vanity Signaling.
