I hear you, there. Not excusing the shooter, obviously, but this is what happens. Bin Laden cited US atrocities in his own home country when he carried out 9/11. He said that he wanted us to suffer like his people had suffered. Of course, this justification was never disclosed widely to the public because “they hate us for our freedom” just sounded so much better! Of course, they knew that the continued involvement in the MENA would create more terrorists, and they embraced it, because they could justify the surveillance regime they created in the wake of 9/11.
