Get your story together. If you didn't know what they were accused of supporting, then why were you defending them? Surely you knew that defending them was the same as taking a stance even if didn't know what you were defending them from and that's just grossly incompetent at best.
An investigation of what? Everything they did already happened and any investigations that were started were already over. The political party they were a part of already investigated and kicked them out years ago.
A statement disavowing their previous stance and showing a change has occurred would help, but instead, they and their employer, Reddit, are just burying the situation.

It's not unreasonable for a company to protect an employee from harassment until an investigation concludes.
