When the aisle is split so evenly, it only takes one or two defectors to protect the other 48. All politicians work together to fuck the people. If the numbers were such that they needed 4 reps to cross over, 4 would cross over.
What this does is protects the seats of those who are in areas where races are tighter. Usually, it’s the politicians with no threat of being outvoted (not that voting means anything at this point) by the constituents who come up with some bullshit statement about what they felt was right after looking at the issue closely or some variation thereof.
None of these fuckers are beholden to their word nor actually represent their voting block. Noem and her recent flip flop on transgenders in women’s sports is the perfect example. Say one thing, do another.
