It seems like this part of the virtue signalling tree is relatively quiet these days despite how it used to be one of the best ways to show you're better than everyone else. Remember when the fake celebrities used to be passionate about the seals and stuff. Animal activism and muh endangered species used to be on the level of environmentalism.

The last decade or so the woke community has been shifting towards "we need to care about oppressed people" -- this makes sense. Part of their animal wokeness came from supporting PETA...PETA hates animals (and people) and wants them gone from human society. Only logical that the mask would finally fall.
It's also a pivot on their part. One of the main arguments sane, decent people had was "we should treat animals with respect and humane care, but people are more important". That this argument was a good one is witnessed by the woke take over and extreme modification of it.
