Most, if not all, miscarriages in early pregnancy happen due to some sort of congenital malformation of the fetus such that it cannot sustain life. Other than that it would take a serious blow to the abdomen or something of that nature physically.
Stress is not good during pregnancy but does not usually cause a miscarriage. She likely would have miscarried whether this happened to her husband or not.
