I'm looking for the quote... it was something like "There were a hundred other options that they could have taken to avoid this, but they have refused every one. So it comes to bloodshed, and if it must be bloodshed let it be their blood that is shed."

Possibly Sherman's "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want" but I thought there was a reluctance to it.
