I shot an AK one time in vegas on full auto and semi auto. Thing was a piece of junk. Will they work in horrid conditions? Yes. Accuracy is basically a spray and pray even on semi auto it seems. Not to mention the AK idea was lifted from the german sturmgewehr.
Yeah the germans had some cool guns/tanks. Just couldnt figure out a way to mass produce them and simplify the production like US and Soviets could. Typical german over engineering lol
Well, that and the fact that they didn't really have the raw material access that the US and Russia had. Plenty of nations still used MG42 variants (as the MG3) right up to the end of the 20th century.
Necessity is a bitch of a mother but I do wonder what the Germans might have produced with say all of Africa's resources or all of the North American continent's resources at their disposal.

The sturmgewehr was superior in all ways except construction
