I kinda had the same “relationship” with the atheist “community.” There wasn’t any deep thought, substance, or enlightenment. It was just a bunch of commie pinko dipshits who were too lazy to believe in anything and felt they were raging against some machine. Complete societal panty wastes.
I'm the only person that I know or have interacted with that is genuinely agnostic. It's been my experience that you are absolutely correct in respect to the overwhelming majority of people who claim to be atheist. They just want to be edgy and don't really believe in anything other than what they can get for themselves.
I tell people I am atheist, but atheists say I'm agnostic. I wouldn't say I am genuinely agnostic. What do you mean by that?
For me, there is knowing and there is believing. I believe there is no God, but I don't know that. That's usually where the "you're agnostic" comments come from, although it's an absurd thing to claim to know, in either direction.
