Bump stock ban was a low point for the Trump admin. He was so obviously pressured into it and it was clear he didn't know what he was doing on that subject. We saw it again when he walked in to conflating the Proud Boys with white supremacists during his debate with Biden.
But he just set precedent, the ban was reversed and Biden can't do anything about guns by executive order now. Always three steps ahead. Love my GEOTUS!

For starters, our Constitution specifically prohibits ex post facto laws, so a hunk of plastic that was legal one day can't just suddenly become illegal the next day. Most laws grandfather things in. When the commies passed the 1994 gun control bullshit, they prohibited the sale of new standard capacity magazines, but didn't criminalize the millions or billions of standard capacity magazines already in circulation. Trump turned that on its head.
Next, he did an illegal taking. If .gov needs your property, like maybe, to build a border wall, or a new freeway exit ramp, you lose your property, but you get paid fair market value for it. Bump stock owners were not paid for their loss, they just lost.
It was one of the few low points of the Trump presidency, let's not white wash it.
Or maybe. Just maybe. People around Trump told him this wouldn't hold up in court in the long run, and because of Las Vegas and Parkland he needed to do something. Do I know that this was the grand plan all along? Of course not, but it worked out. This ban is struck down, and we didn't get any real, lasting gun laws due to Las Vegas and Parkland. I don't think you remember just how much the left was hyping up that event as a reason to go after guns, HARD. We could easily have gotten a new assault weapons ban. As it is, bump stocks are most definitely a niche item, and while I am not happy about the ban, it was absolutely a small bone to toss the opposition.
