You’re looking at the wrong picture though. He didn’t need very much of the black vote, definitely not the majority, but just enough that it wasn’t an easy victory for Democrats.
If a Republican gets 14% of the black vote then it’s over for Democrats. Why the Republicans always write that off as unwinnable is dumb. President Trump did some moderate outreach to the black community and did pretty good, considering he was openly being called a racist by the media.
