Don't lock anyone into the corner of defending their own egos in light of their having been suckered and looking like fools. Many people would prefer to stay wrong than admit that they were fools and suckers.
Don't involve the person that your speaking to as an inferior position.
Instead, convey the presumption that they're learn-ed .. like you (and everone else who's not an idiot), .. present a good gloss of the facts for them, and then wrap up with derision and/or appall for the people who bought into the scam.
Towards the end of the encounter this leaves the person pliable for not wanting to be 'one of those idiot people', and later, on their own, they'll adapt towards your position as if they 'knew it all along'.
