Not true. Exercise was always allowed within your own area. It was Victoria that went mental with their lockdown. In NSW, I've been able to play full contact sport since July 2020.
But now, Australia is basically COVID free. Sydney lifts ALL restrictions on Monday. Life has been fairly normal for us for a while now though.
