I see Disney isnt done flushing money down the toliet. Yes, make sure your employees tell us Star Wars isn't for us, keeps me from buying anything disney.
It really fascinates me, i've never in my life seen a company willing to just destroy their own company like this. I've always thought it was about maximizing viewership increasing profits and good will. This has been the m.o. for as long as i've been alive. These folks are like destroying themselves and it would be SO EASY to make everyone happy. Yet they do not and will not. I was trained as an artist and storyteller. A huge rule of thumb is to NOT inject politics into your story, or if you do - it was to be known upfront. Not weasled in there. And writers are NOT supposed to reveal their politics. Its just a huge no no in this biz, yet here we are. The loonies are at the wheel.
Absolutely! The loonies don't even do it well. It is possible to blend a political statement into a compelling story, as you know. But when the story must bend and bow to your politics, it sucks. This is magnified by when the very shape of the world of the story has to change to accommodate the new political song and dance. Ugh. Lightspeed through a fucking ship as a weapon but its a woman doing it, so ok? It's not a story, it's virtue masterbation and I'm not watching. Or buying the toys, themed cookies, shirts, park tickets ect ect
