Did they just not see it coming? Were they scared of being called racists or sexists? Or were they just lazy?

Its a shame that we let leftists gain so much power. They've completely taken over the entire government, the military, all of mainstream media, Hollywood, all public schools, the legal system, universities, all of the major corporations, the gaming industry, Big Tech, etc.

There's basically no institution left that conservatives have control of. And it makes it really hard to fight back and fight for America.
