I'm not in favor of new taxes but with the shift to electric vehicles we cant put the transportation funding burden on gas taxes. It absolutely should be based on weight and miles traveled.

It already is. Travel more and weigh more you buy more gas and pay more taxes. They are just going to tax you again for what you already paid taxes on.

How do electric vehicles pay gas taxes?

They don't, but I guess it depends on how the electricity you use is produced.

In Minnesota, the new electric bud fleet that the people were so proud of is fueled with... Diesel powered generators haha.

Right so they wont be paying gas taxes to fund transportation. Tell me, what happens to the transportation tax burden if it is based on gasoline consumption? Who will it fall on?

This ain't rocket surgery.

Maybe if they eliminate the gas tax and instead just tax miles driven but they won't. It'll be double taxation and we'll continue to get ass reamed by these faggot commies.

Ok well if you reread my original comment that's what I'm saying.

Here our car registration is based on weight. Not mine, the car's. Since lockdowns and teleworking locals are saving a bundle on gas, tires, oil (reminds me of our old beloved GTO car). The roads are still crumbling, though.

Car registration is only a portion of transportation funding. Any tax based on gas will shift a larger. burden of the taxes to the middle and lower class as they are less likely to own an electric or hybrid car.

I already pay an extra fee in my state because I have a hybrid (for economic purposes, not virtue signaling).
