I believe the real issue is that you have a right to defend your life and you don't have to provide further excuses to justify the 2nd amendment.

This. The right to defend oneself is a natural right.

The 9th and 10th amendment should protect this right even in the absence of the second and natural law that n the absence of those.

The fact that the most clearly and redundantly protected right in the constitution is so regularly infringed speaks to the fact that constitutions are incapable of long restricting government power.
