It was a mistake to not put into the constitution a punishment system for government officials or elected officials who put forth legislation, amendments or regulations that violated the bill of right. Maybe as well some position for specifically preventing those proposals from even getting to the point of a vote.
But then I remember that a lot of the people who wrote the constitution were federalists who wanted to be able to do just that "if needed." It was probably an intentional loophole/trap, like never touching on slavery in the constitution was probably so there would be no protections against outlawing it entirely.
I've had similar ideas before. When I look at it now, we probably should have known the country was gone after the 2018 midterms. So much could have been done, but apparently the people in power then didn't understand the fork we were heading into. Republicans did nothing but fight against Trump. But I don't accept that, and believe they're in on it now. Abolishing hate crime legislation, or affixing some kind of remedial legislation to prevent the abuse that it is, should have been a priority in 2016. I think that, in particular, has set this course.
