For prescription medications, if you have to get something off label the insurance company will say "that's not approved for your condition" and won't cover it. Even though it's the only thing that exists and has been used for decades, still not officially approved so you're fucked. Medicine without insurance in Germany is just as expensive as in the US if not more so.
Also for earners that make enough to pay the max for the basic insurance end up paying more than really great quality insurance in the US.
The salaries for the same jobs as in the US are actually lower. Some people were shocked when they found out that our employee in the US makes twice as much as his German manager in Germany does.
Also, racism in Germany. I've seen this first hand and have been told such many times by Germans. If you are not white, not born in Germany, you will never be considered German by the Germans, especially in Bavaria but other places too. You could have the citizenship, you could speak the language perfectly without an accent. Sorry you're still not German. No one will persecute you per say, but they won't think of you as German.

My grandpa used to supplement his farming income by being a mechanic and welder/machinist -- a very good one. My mom and my cousin used to help him at his garage on the weekends (they were a good mechanics too). So good that some of the local doctors used to have them do the work on their fancy foreign cars and even private little planes. The fancy foreign cars were the things that gave them the most headaches.
I always hear people say they tried making a restaurant dish at home but it never tasted as good, its always the butter, we never use enough at home. If you want to recreate that restaurant dish, use enough butter to the point you think it is too much, then double it lol, that will give you closer to restaurant style.
Yet.. I still haven't had a single good meal in France. Every fucking time it's shitter than I could get in Holland or Germany or Switzerland.

Even though they worked in some of the worse places (like the Praries), a lot of them ended up staying in Canada, getting citizenship. They marveled at the fact that they could own and afford several BIG cars of trucks. Buy a large house that would be paid off in one generation. Do pretty much the fuck they wanted. And low taxes. No, seriously, they thought an overall 50% + tax rate and 20% sales tax was low taxes. Still funny visualizing that 6' 6" German trying to fit in that Bell 206.

Can confirm. I'm currently occupying Germany and this shit is garbage. Sure, they have some neat things, but it's mainly historical sites and structures or fests (neither of which have been open since the coof started). The road system, while probably better than anywhere in Europe, is garbage. They take sooooooo freaking long to repair the roads or build anything, so many parts of the autobahn are perpetually under construction. All the cities are dirty, trash lining the roads most of the time, plants overgrown and unkempt everywhere. And we're in one of the riches cities in the country. My random hometown looks a hell of a lot nicer.
We had a baby while here and that was a fucking nightmare, too. We made a reservation for a birthing room at a university hospital. Then when I call them up to tell them we're coming (in the middle of the night) they say they're full because they don't have staff on the weekends! So we had to go to a different hospital and I couldn't even be with my wife until a certain point in the process, which was 18 hours later. She had to wait in the emergency room by herself for a couple hours to get signed in. Then, after our baby was born I had to leave and could only visit for one hour during a three hour period. My wife was then stuffed into a tiny room the size of a closet and they didn't help her with anything. Also there was no air conditioning in her room and this was in the middle of a heat wave! They also told her the baby didn't need to be fed for three days!!! So the baby got jaundice and we had to take him to ANOTHER hospital that had a NIC, where he stayed for a couple of days.
So I came to Germany thinking it was going to be like what we hear about: nice, efficient, advanced, etc. Didn't take very long at all to realize what a load of shit that was. I've been counting down the days until I get to leave for over a year.
Communists in America have romanticized ideas of Europe. They forget that some of the founders of our country were fleeing Europe to build something better.
The German exchange girl my family hosted has grass planted on their roof because you are taxed on the square footage of non-grass you have on your property, I shit you not. They told me “well that’s Germany”, with a bit of an eye roll, when I was astounded that was a thing.
