When my older brother was in 2nd grade the school tried to put him on Ritalin. My mother's response was to pull us out of school, and then proceeded to homeschool me and my 5 brothers for the next 20 years. (Some of them weren't born yet.) Every day more and more I appreciate my parents and what they've done for me.
Given the type of person my mother was, and knowing now more about her "issues" I'm unfortunately glad I wasn't home-schooled because the little amount of time I had to spend around her was already enough to do some long lasting damage.
Boys who display anything but docility get put on nasty drugs.

My father entered what I call "Master Chief Mode" and gave them whatfor. They never heard anything more about it.

That makes it harder for the kids to get into fights.
My kids get in arguments with their friends that they visit though.
