I've done it dozens of times. All their programming goes out the window and you can almost see the gears grinding as they try to think for the first time in years.
Just bought my first one yesterday. Paid cash. I'm not even going to charge it up until I get to work and make a test call, then I'm taking the battery out and throwing it in my backpack.
