If that happens, secession will become more viable, especially in a state like Texas. We send I think it's well over 300 billion to the fed every year. We could keep that in house and set up our own system.

To be honest, I'm not real keen on replacing the old system of gov't induced dependence with a newer shiner version of the same. SS was a Ponzi from the beginning and I see no reason to repeat the mistake.
That said, I have empathy for people who paid into the system their whole lives and don't want anyone to be left in the lurch, so some sort of a transition should be discussed.

Yep, a much better alternative. Also, instead of seceding from the Union, I've seen where parts of states are talking about breaking away and joining another state. Eastern Oregon is taking about leaving the state of Oregon and becoming part of the state of Idaho.
That's a better alternative in my opinion. It will reduce the electoral votes of a blue state like Oregon and add electoral votes to a red state like Idaho.
There's a lot of state sovereignty issues that make these redivision ideas very challenging.

While it's a much easier thing than seceding from the Union, or creating an entirely new state, it still brings it's own set of problems. I'm not sure how the courts would look at it, but I thought it was an interesting concept.
