Just a basic simple grocery store trip is now crazy expensive! Where the hell is the money going?? Just basic, very cheap stuff like lentils is now more expensive than it was just a year ago. Chicken, beef, even produce has gotten more expensive.

Forget about ever getting a cheap low-budget lunch at a small restaurant now. That's gone. Even just chicken soup is way more expensive than it used to be.

Even canned stuff is more expensive. Canned soup used to be really cheap. Now, you have to make sure to only buy it when it's on sale.

What the hell is going on?

What on earth did this idiot Biden do?

It's the result of injecting a bunch of fake money into the system and handing it out. The poor does get any richer and the middle class gets poorer.

riesling [S] 5 points ago +5 / -0

I'm not even middle-class by any shot. And can confirm, I'm definitely not any richer.

Well, there was this fake election about 5 months ago, then......💥

I notice how all frozen foods are injected with water to swell the food, increase the weight. You get about half what you paid for. Those sneaky water absorbant pads at the bottom of the tray, sometimes weigh a pound or so.

riesling [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

This guy gets it. Yup, exactly. What's going on with frozen foods and refrigerated meats is a total travesty.

Lolol no. But this is just really striking. It's like you have to be super vigilant all the time now just to go to the grocery store.

DeadOverRed 6 points ago +6 / -0

It's amazing how quickly a country can go from practically free food to standing in bread lines.

3
riesling [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

When was the food practically free? Although yeah there was a time when fast food places were really really cheap. You could get a burger and fries and a drink and a side for like 6 bucks with tax. Subway used to be cheap and good too.

DeadOverRed 3 points ago +4 / -1

When you have to be well under the poverty line for food to make up a significant percentage of your income, it's practically free.

3
riesling [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's definitely not "practically free" now lol.

3
DeadOverRed 3 points ago +3 / -0

And if we keep it up much longer, it will soon become priceless.

2
Gnometard 2 points ago +2 / -0

We got homeless people who are fat. Food gotta be free.

Hell, we got people who claim they're poor or broke but are fat!

If the food isn't free, how the hell can you afford to eat enough to get fat?

I don't think this is about demand from free money at all. Retail prices on staples do not work like that at all. These are commodities like grains and meats.

All that free money is going towards paying bills and paying off debts like overdue utilities and rent. Any money left over would go towards discretionary purchases like video games and consoles, not chicken or rice or lentils.

And if anything, restaurants are highly incentivized to lower their prices now, not raise them staggeringly high on basics.

Restaurants are raising prices because they are barely holding on. I’ve noticed lots of places with a surcharge on every bill due to the lockdowns. Not to mention, prices are going up for food staples and fuel. I’m sure Uber and Lyft drivers are feeling it because gas comes out of their pocket. Uber and Lyft have also started charging a surcharge because of AB5 (I’m in California) requiring those companies to provide benefits to their drivers.

I’ve also heard that the cost of insurance has gone up as well in Democrat cities due to the rioting , looting and burning down businesses and the billions in damages.

You're completely ignoring the supply chain for commodities. As I said earlier, this is not exclusively about demand.

Inflation and supply chain delay.

Gas is up too for same reasons.

Cant get out of equites completely, but get that palladium, gold and silver.

5
Datamancer 5 points ago +5 / -0

Inflation is too much money chasing too few goods and services.

  1. We have printed a metric ton of money
  2. Between the breakdown of our logistics and slowdown in production we definitely have fewer goods.
  3. Increased fuel costs will raise prices
  4. How much of our food is being exported?
4
Gopher 4 points ago +4 / -0

Joe would say he got you $1400 that should make it all better.

4
riesling [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yeah. And that money for anyone making less than $100K will go towards paying overdue utility bills and rent i.e: existing debts.

4
residue69 4 points ago +4 / -0

One reason is people can use welfare to pay for hot or precooked food now.

One of many switches being flipped right now to kill off the middle class.

2
Gnometard 2 points ago +2 / -0
  1. Restaurants run on a razor thin margin. If you cut capacity, they have to raise prices a bunch to stay green.

  2. We've done nothing but print money for a year. You're paying the same, it's just your dollars are worth less.

It's going to get MUCH MUCH worse

I work retail grocery. It's not just prices going up, the products are shrinking. Smaller portions/packaging. That type of thing. I watched a video on inflation and this exact thing was described.

I've also noticed that products that have people on them are being changed as well. Kind of like that new coke slogan... If you know what I mean.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. These weird, crazy price increases on staple foods and prepared foods made from staples. It's insane. These are all food commodities. And their prices are steadily going up and no one seems to care.

3
Sumarongi 3 points ago +3 / -0

Oh yes they care... they are doing it on purpose

1
riesling [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

What is the desired outcome?

2
Sumarongi 2 points ago +2 / -0

Control/power. The endless printing of money enriches those closest to the the money spigot -> politicians, bankers, government contractors to the detriment of everyone else In society.

It’s one way to institute socialism/communism

Inflation. It’s what happens when you expand the money supply by 40% in less than a year
