Put them to death! They will never learn. They will just be emboldened to commit more crime and evil if they are slapped on the wrist. Who knows, we might just be looking at 2 new Harvard students in the making. Mark my words

Put them to death!

Publicly. We need to start making a public examples again. When shit like this is handled behind closed doors 1) people continue doing the same shit again 2) its too easy to coverup.

The last public execution was in 1936, and 2021 sounds as good a time as any to bring it back.

I think these two (especially the 13 year old) are a bit young for the death penalty. Their parents, on the other hand, should go to the front of the line (of course, it would probably take a lot of DNA testing and searching to find their actual fathers).

If the death penalty were really a deterrence, we would see dramatically lower rates of murder in states that have it, but we don't see that. How about if we just throw them in jail for 30 years and then release them on ankle bracelet / house arrest for the rest of their lives. They can leave to go to work (instead of us paying to lock them up) and then they have to go home. Of course, if they misbehave when they get out, they go back to the clink for the rest of their life sentence.

This is a bit simplistic. Nobody I know thinks the main reason to execute is to deter other criminals. It's a penalty reserved for the most serious offences. Justice. It does lead to some positives like a killer disclosing the locations of bodies. Dead killers don't escaoe, don't murder guards or other inmates, don't taunt the relatives of victims.

Wisest man I knew sincerely said he'd rather have an execution date than possibly decades of total confinement. Execution is more merciful than 70+ years in a prison.

I agree with your point that dead killers don't cause these other problems. I still don't like the death penalty because at the end of the day, someone has to be the one to deliver the death. I think it's bad for that person's soul, so I don't think it's right to ask anyone to do that. If that leads to the killer facing the more cruel fate of decades in prison, so be it.
