Ok, since we're on the subject, I have some qudstions . Yesterday a relative repeated the lie that there are guns being sold where you only need to remove or file off a certain piece to make it full automatic. My understanding is this is nonsense. Federal law restricts fully auto weapons, and anyway fully auto weapons have to be designed different. I did find online that there are lightning links or swift links, which hold open a certain part so the cycle can run automatic. I saw a YouTube video of this working- but even there I would figure that this would be a ridiculous thing to do. The barrel isn't designed for that kind of fire, and there's a solid chance that by removing the control of the cycle you are super likely to jam the mechanisms altogether as the firing pin bounces back unrestricted. That is, it all sounds scary but it's as ridiculous as a 3D printed plastic gun.
Are there guns that are made same exact design as fully automatic, and the manufacturer only uses some mechanism to restrict the gun to semi auto, and that's how they can sell it, and the owner only need do a slight modification to reach full auto? As far as I can tell this seems to be one of the only claims here?
I'm in NJ so my exposure to guns is more limited. My knowledge isn't zero but it's far from the fluency of some of you red state gun nuts (I don't say that as a bad thing. Obviously I'm on this website for a reason/if I were anti-gun I wouldn't be here)
