Every department is different. The cities where the mayor runs the dept are usually trash. My town in NY is good, and I trust them.

Hell, someone broke into one of my properties a year ago... My "friend" who was there pulled a firearm to point at them as they ran out of the house.
We told the cops what happened, and that we are carrying, and that we pulled it on them.
The cops saw his firearm in a concealed location, and said "good. Good to carry. You did the right thing".
They didn't question or treat us as the criminals. They treated us how we shoild be treated. As victims who were ready to defend ourselves had the crackheads ran toward us, rather than away.
Your government is effectively putting you in an arena with hungry lions, and if you attempt to defend yourself, you get dragged off to a cell (and likely raped by Bubba).
