You are the Police, no local government support, they have just defunded your precinct, and you don't have the manpower and Antifa has free rein, pretty much. The optics here look bad but the cop made the right move to deescalate. The gun owner made the right move in brandishing to protect himself and complying with police.
This is Oregon. The guy daring to defend himself with a firearm will be maliciously prosecuted and made and example of. The prosecutor will stack up as many charges as possible and he'll be convicted on all of them by a leftist jury or a leftist judge.
If Officer Donut is worried about the situation escalating, he could easily tell Mr. Patriot "sir, we'll call in some back up to arrest these little twerps, but this looks bad and I'd recommend you get somewhere safe."
