I think it was 2 villains fighting each other. East Germany after the war was bad.

The Commies and the Fascists each insisted that they were the One True Marxism. Because the Commies got the chance to claim victory (thanks to American military brilliance that they quietly forgot to mention in their histories), they labeled Fascism "right-wing".

We should've listened to Patton and gone straight on to Moscow, tbh.

They most absolutely were. You can insist they were good red-blooded Republicans or whatever, but their policies were built upon collectives and centralized government control (through proxies if necessary).

FDR built his "New Deal" upon fascist ideas, as modeled by Italy and Germany.
