I’m glad he’s running for governor again. One thing I hope Trump does is motivate a ground up retuning of the GOP. If anything I think we have learned in the last month or so it is how important state level governments can be for holding the line as well as having a more direct impact on our personal lives. We need more state officials to be vocal and getting themselves in the news cycle so we can know who we got and what they’re doing.
On my front in Ohio I am watching closely for anyone stepping up to primary DeWine out of office because I’m not thrilled at how he handled the pandemic.
If trump decides not to run again, and desantis decides to stay governor I'm getting worried we won't have anyone to fall back on for 2024. Hoping that's not the case.
I would gladly give up the executive branch for another term to see red states become redder and blue states lose seats in their state legislatures. Being executive of the land has minimal effect if support is fractured. Look at some of the things Trump had to deal with involving pushback from the states. I personally feel Trump in the position he is in right now is more powerful than the presidency and he can plant seeds for some deep change.
As much as I consider myself a Reagan Republican, his GOP faded away. It started with W Bush and it was sealed when Romney got less votes than McCain. Everyone was shocked Trumps so called rhetoric was motivating the voters but the reality of it IMO was more that the GOP lost touch with what our concerns were. They were using Reagan’s eloquent, subtle, pal around gameplan when sensibilities for that are long gone. Much much much to my disappointment mind you, but this is the new reality. The GOP needs to be reinvigorated with the new platform and tent poles. Trump can be the man to redefine it.
