If you can’t read the writing on the wall by now, there is no saving you.

Ford: "We're ending all domestic production and sale of most models, except the F series, and Mustang - We'll still import the Ranger and Bronco for now."

Also Ford: "We're making the Mustang a CUV electric car; we're committed to ending the gasoline engine by 2030; We practice diversity and inclusion"

I've never seen a company so intent on killing itself before... In one breath they say they can't compete in the domestic market with anything except trucks so say they're killing all their cars in the US, and then promise to end the gas engine in 10 years...

Be totally real; most of Ford's income is the F-150, and most of that is from domestic sales, if Ford loses the domestic market, I see them going bankrupt in a few years, so 2032; Ford will probably get sold to some Chinese owned multinational auto group. Same as Chrysler.

Shame, isn't it?

Ford went to shit in the 80's, but they came roaring back in the 90's, their cars and trucks were really well made. I got 14 years out of a mid-90's Mustang with no issues. My parents did the same with an Explorer. They revamped their dealerships, especially repair, and they were often cheaper for things like tires.

Now? You have three choices - a boxy looks like everything else on the road Escape, a (pricey) Mustang, or a truck. Woo. And now the Mustang is going electric? Yeah. No. The whole POINT of a Mustang is the engine, and the 5.0 was a LOT of fun! (Ask me how I know)

I'd gladly rebuild the same mid-90's Mustang, and daily drive it, if I could find parts. Which is getting harder to do, after all, it's a car that's 25 years old now.

The more I watch shows like Vice Grip Garage on Youtube, the more I want to find an older car or truck and get it running. Probably be cheaper than the shitboxes everyone sells now.

Yeah explaining to people that I'm planning to set up a car lift in my home garage/workshop is always met with questions of why do I need that or why would you spend the money on that.

Because by the end of this decade repairing old vehicles and doing engine swaps will be a decent sized market.

A year ago I was talking with some friends about buying some older cars and engine swapping them with crate engines from Ford (eco-boost 4 cylinder) or converting them to diesel. I won't be wasting my time & money with Ford now.

There are multiple YouTube & social media mechanic channels. Showing how now people across the US are doing engine swaps on older vans, trucks, and heavy equipment. Often converting them to diesel for the additional power & fuel savings.

Volvo and John Deere both purge equipment older than ten years from their systems. They forceably EOL them even if the vehicles still have life in them. So here comes red-neck mechanic converting fuel lines to copper/stainless steel. Replacing the old lights and electrical components. And sometimes dropping a salvaged truck engine in it if parts can no longer be found at a fair price or if at all.

So Doge, LSI, Cummins Inc., & Caterpillar Inc. will have a chance making a good deal more money off their crate engine programs in the coming years.

Yep. You can get the GT with the current gen 5.0 - it'll cost you $40k, though.

My fast car days are over, though. My insurance bill is much nicer these days.

“ Ford will be sold to a Chinese company” bingo. More like taken over by the Chinese government. It was a good run but sadly there aren’t enough willing to take it back before the Chinese takeover. “ let’s see what happens” as trump would say.
