Except that we know it does and a few of the founding fathers were aficionados of certain experimental weaponry, such as, amongst others, the earliest repeating firearms like the Girandoni and early revolvers. They probably were well aware weapons would eventually be able to easily fire multiple shots and not take the better part of a minute to reload (paper cardridges also did exist, they just weren't that common in their earlier configuration)
