Umm it doesn’t cause the flu. It causes severe respiratory distress

The flu can as well.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/symptoms/flu-vs-covid19.htm

  • Fever or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle pain or body aches
  • Headache
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults

Differences:

Flu

Flu viruses can cause mild to severe illness, including common signs and symptoms listed above.

COVID-19

COVID-19 seems to cause more serious illnesses in some people. Other signs and symptoms of COVID-19, different from flu, may include change in or loss of taste or smell.

If there's any difference it might be in occurrence rates and severity - if you trust all the statistics.

Cold/flu kills many because they end up contracting an opportunistic case of pneumonia of which there are different types. This has always been a risk factor.

The symptoms vary person to person. Covid isn’t severe pneumonia per-se. I don’t see what your point is.

It causes severe respiratory distress

🤔 You brought up that and even considering opportunistic pneumonia infections - your statement doesn't hold up.

I point out, correctly - that pneumonia crops up in common flu as well - the only "argument" is that somehow COVID is more dangerous - I think that argument is relatively weak but still only a matter of degree not actual difference.

Flu strains are like that - some strain worse than others.
