THAT, you're right about. When we're talking about covid, the argument needs to be separated into distinct categories: the scientific and political. What you're really arguing, are the political ramifications and policy decisions by elected officials, which I am against. They were wrong, and it was completely bullshit what they did. When you're making a scientific argument, well, most people don't have enough background knowledge in science to fully understand the difference. You saying that you haven't seen the evidence of it being more dangerous than the flu is just wrong and ignoring the evidence that's out there to fit your own personal political narratives; the evidence is there. It's just the way in which they used that evidence. Sort of like when there's a mass shooting, they use that as evidence of a crisis and gun "epidemic,", or problem with firearms (you know what I mean), when it's really just a problem with the individual or other factors. Sure, guns kill people, but they're not the problem are they? Same thing here: covid can have bad effects for those who may be immunocompromised, of a certain age, etc. That's a fact.
People have made the argument that we haven't seen any more deaths in a year than any other year, which is probably true (haven't seen the stats, but I'll buy it). They've also made the argument that cases of the flu are down, also maybe true. The reality is, is that we've stopped testing for the flu because of covid. So I bet if you take the 'normal' deaths from the flu and add them in, it would be an increase in deaths, slightly. I could be wrong.
Lastly, I've seen the evidence. You can believe what you'd like. But what I think most people are pissed about (including me) is the way it was handled, and the way that they usurped our rights and civil liberties among other things. It was a way to gain control. If you (or anyone) would agree this virus came from a chinese lab, like I do, it's easy to understand the political ramifications, and what it was intended to do-cripple us.
There has been a lot of bullshit scientific reports as to the origins of covid. That's true. They don't make sense, when one understands the nature of zoonotic viruses and how they can go from one species to another. It doesn't just happen. When they came out with the report saying it likely came from bats than jumped to humans, it was horseshit. When viruses do make that jump, there is usually an intermediate-a 'missing link' so to speak. That would be a hybrid of the old virus and new virus. They haven't found the intermediate virus or the intermediate vector (animal). Again, that's political propaganda disguised as scientific.
There has been too much bullshit, and you're right: they have lost all credibility, which is why I don't trust them. But I do trust basic science, and my own understanding of it to be able to discern between both. Most people can't do that because they are ignorant to the science, or blinded by their own ideologies. I personally don't care what people think, however, I feel a duty to offer scientific facts to counter propaganda on our side regarding the basic science of the virus itself. Because there is a lot of misinformation out there. Does that mean you need to hide in your basement and wear a mask? No. You can do what you want with it. You're free to make those decisions. I think that's the biggest problem is that we need to tell people that if they want to wear a mask go ahead. If I don't want to wear one, that's fine too, because the mask someone else is wearing should prevent them from getting the virus. If I choose to take that risk, then it's my choice.
Lastly, there is a middle ground between what is reasonable and rational, based on the scientific evidence regarding covid. Because whether you want to see that evidence or not, it's there.
