The movie is about a society that has been forcefully coerced into taking an emotion numbing drug on a daily basis (emotions are outlawed). There is no color. Everything is black, white and grey. No pets or enjoyment is allowed of any kind. All art and culture is illegal. The only correct opinion allowed is that of agreeing with the government. Police round up dissidents (or just kill them) who have the audacity to want to think for themselves and enjoy poetry or music. The "leader" is nothing but a literal puppet on display for the populace as he has been dead for years.

Was a great movie that came out around matrix time and sadly was overlooked.
It became an instruction book for the left, not a warning.
They'll even claim "well, that will never happen, we're too smart for that."
really? so all those Germans during WWII were just dumb? People tend (unfortunately) to blindly follow authority figures, especially if a large enough group "goes along with it" to justify their actions by saying "well, i wasn't the only one, i was just following what everyone else was doing"
There was a pretty famous psychological experiment called the Milgram experiment involving instructing people to administer an electric shock to someone who answered a question incorrectly, with increasing voltage for every wrong answer. It surprised the ones conducting the experiment when so few people questioned the authority of the doctors instructing them to give the shocks even when they could hear the screams of the person supposedly being shocked & knew it was hurting them. They still went along with it because someone in authority told them to.
Loved that movie. Shame I'm gonna get to live it.
You're treading on my dreams Preston.
