It's really quite amazing. I dated a woman who was all pro-immigrants, anti-racism, etc. When we went our own ways and she moved to another city and it was time to look for an apartment. There was one she really liked that was affordable to her but, "you wouldn't believe it, there were all these disgusting spitting Pakistani men in the neighborhood." She moved into a an area with her tribe. That is just one anecdote from that mess.
