Church 'membership' is a nebulous thing ain't it, not a stable or reliable or accurate marker of any kind really.
Millions and millions of Americans who try to Faithfully follow Christ are not members of any organized Church, we worship Christ unseen, remembering that Christ told us churches may become corrupt, as do all things manmade.
It is ridiculous to decide that membership number represents a decline of Faith or rapid secularization, tho we probably are gaining more atheist/communist/satanic members of the populace daily. It IS what government and media preaches isn't it, even academia preaches Evil and rejects God.
But not mainstream America, we still have our Faith, we just don't trust the Churches much. The Pope is clearly seen as tainted, not of God, Protestant Churches are falling to satan and accepting queer marriages and all manner of Evil trivialities, yeah.
But our Faith is strong, if an accurate survey were possible I'd wager fully 75% of us are still viable Christians or follow Judeo-Christian beliefs.

With or without the Church.
