It's a little tongue in cheek, but there's so much to be said for a healthy response to adversity in the development of an individual's character.

I think it's easy to say that those two kids are much more developed character-wise than the majority of their peers based on what they've overcome so far, and if they continue down a path of personal development, they're going to be incredible leaders down the road.
