What happens when the federal government simply brands the movement leaders of the convention as white nationalists and send in federal troops, all to the cheering approval of the media ? Hell our capitol is still occupied by soldiers checkpoints and barricades. I suspect Trump arrived at least a decade too late to turn any of this around.
It'll start with State Nullification so you'll have the Governors and National Guard on your side. It's a Constitutional question, and the strongest institutions we have to stand up to the Feds are States.
If the Feds think they can get US military to fire on legitimate state governors and National Guard, then why aren't we already in the gulag? Put the Convention in Florida or Texas.

A Convention of States can reel in the out-of-control Federal Gov't overnight. Nothing is faster than that.
