I still don't understand the Pence hate for Jan 6. The Vice President does not have the authority to unilaterally throw out electoral votes. If the Vice President really did have that authority, an incumbent would never ever lose. The incumbent Vice President would just always toss all electoral votes that were for the opposition.

I must disagree here. There is not only a long standing precedent, but also the Supreme Court's own ruling that the Vice President has a plenary power as the President of the Senate. Look into how Nixon and T Jefferson behaved in these roles. No question Pence had the authority to throw this out, just as the president of a bank would have the authority to deny cashing a check until the bearer could demonstrate the instrument's legitimacy.

He didn't have the votes in Congress to win if he tried to throw out the electoral votes. The electoral votes were "properly certified by the states", even though the election was fraudulent.

Several of those states submitted competing slates of electors. They were being legally challenged by Senators and congresspeople. The constitution clearly states the vp can accept or reject.
