Honestly I dont think they do it to stay on the right side of cancel culture. Okay actually I think there is some of that, but I believe they think they are separate from it, and their rules don't apply to them. Because they seem to fully embrace cancel culture and virtue signaling with sincerity...until it comes for them. Too many celebrities with the "fair share" bullshit but did everything they could to lower their taxes, as an example. They're hypocrites and believe when theyyyy do it its not the same, or when they did it they just made a mistake so it's okay but not for others to have made the same "mistakes" or to make them now because NOW everyone "knows better". We see it every day from regular leftists...their hubris and two-sided application of moral virtue that is enormous and unrelenting.
