The problem these people have with freedom Is it also requires self sufficient and the ability to fail. Not everyone can be a winner in a capitalist meritocracy. Therefore anyone on the bottom of the socio-economic hierarchy sees no benefit to their freedom. Whether they are conscious of it or not, they are admitting that they cannot succeed on their own so they are willing to hand their lives over to someone else to let them run it.
