I'm not against churches because they serve a valuable purpose (or can serve/sometimes serve a valuable purpose), but mega churches are always bad. I can't think of a single example of a good mega church.
joel olsteen types are so pointless. i sure don't want to listen to some mega church pastor talk about how great life is when they are living way too high off the hog from the tithes of parishioners who actually have to work for a living. also, they financially exploit a lot of very sincere people, especially the elderly.
Well said. Agree 100%. I did not grow up with religion, began attending small town church as a young child on my own seeking answers. Was happy until we moved and attended mega church. Completely turned off
Might be worth skipping to some of the letters in the NT nearer the back.
Almost all of them have the harshest possible condemnations of false teachers. The disappointment you feel is not just you, and it's not in tension with being part of Jesus' church.
Jude is two pages of it. These sort of people get compared to comets in interstellar space, condemned to end up wandering in the blackest void for eternity, totally alone.
It's most important to read about the mercy of God which we see in the Gospels, but occasionally it's necessary for believers to be reminded that God hates evil even more than you do.
Together, it ought to make you realize the enormity of what Jesus has saved you from, and how he's blessed you by making you who you are instead of these guys.
I remember something in the Bible about a rich man, a needle, and a camel. Doubley so for someone who is a fraud and uses the bible and preaching to enrich himself.
