Conservatives do it to try to prove to moderates that the left is completely hypocritical and they’re nothing but double standards and lies. I don’t know how successful this strategy is, but that is their strategy.

But I do agree conservatism is progressivism in slow motion. You want proof, look no further than the fact the rest of the US now tends to be what California was years ago. Consistently.
