They only report that in hopes people will start hording again. Had they just shut the fuck up nothing would have happened. What better way to remind people the "pandemic" is still around us than once again witnessing empty toilet paper shelves in stores.
p.s. No toilet paper? Try washing your ass in the shower! It ain't rocket science.
But shortages do happen for many reasons. There is already a big shortages of shipping containers needed for world trade. China stopped making them due to Covid. Then the Canal block trapped hundred of thousands of them on ships that were not moving. They can't be unloaded anytime soon with a backlog at ports, and returned for reloading for weeks. The point is name a product, and it is likely log jammed in the system. TP will be affected, as will Coffee. New furniture, and toys we can do without.
obviously the canal situation will cause backlogs on certain industries, but toilet paper isn't going to be one of them. Not when the majority of our TP come from this side of the globe. This is where most of the lumber is. So reporting on something like this will spur on panic buying and hoarding. It will only serve to make the situation worse than it would have been.
The reporting has already been out there for over a week. So don't blame me for commenting on it. I'm not going to go stock up on t p because I don't have to. But I did lay in some coffee. I'm glad your sure of the situation, and then I guess we will see won't we. I don't hoard but always buy a few months ahead on basics. That means that if something is scarce I won't be needing to be buying and I'll give others a shot at what there is. PS. The backlog is not on the industries, but on the delivery to consumers.
I'm not blaming you, I'm just saying the reporting served no purpose other than fear promotion. Backlog on industries and consumers is just semantics. Consumers order products which belong to certain industries but industries also order raw goods for manufacturing. As for hoarding, I don't have much confidence in mankind after witnessing what was done when KungFlu first broke out. All some people need is a whiff of a "shortage" and the worst comes out. Although not related to this, I remember that asshat who walked into a store and bought every piece of meat and more or less said "sucks to be you" to others in the store. He got shamed into donating it.

Or just don't wipe.
Plus it'll help enforce social distancing when people can smell your asshole from 150 feet away.
