The problem is generational thinking. We as citizens need(ed) to realize politics, notably our local politics, is as important as our families and careers. That's what living in a democracy/republic means. If citizens want to just fuck off and be absent from the decision making process, then honestly it'd be better to go with a monarchy and hope for one who is benevolent and wise. Otherwise you're just opening the door for thousands of incompetents and snakes to take control, which is what we have now.
